In 2005, my parents moved to Miami to try their luck.
My father, Arturo Nelson, joined the Greater Miami Ski Club and quickly noticed that more than half of the members were over 50 years old.
His goal has always been to promote the sport of skiing by teaching others to love and enjoy it.
He aimed to establish a training center on one of the five local lakes.
It was a long and challenging process, but he always had the support of Mr. Ed Hickey.
My father considers Ed a role model.
I remember him telling me how he would watch Ed train without fail, two or three times a week at 7 a.m., with George Levin.
Like a machine, Ed would clear 38 and 39 off.
By that time, Mr. Hickey had already been a national champion multiple times and held the record with a 2 at 41 off.
My father admired him not only for his discipline and achievements in skiing but also for his success in business and family life.
In 2008, Ed sold his drilling company, HJ Fundaciones, and moved to Hobe Sound, to a beautiful lake.
But Ed’s goal wasn’t to retire.
Like my father, his passion for the sport led him to build one of the world’s premier lakes: Hobeski.
It’s long, wide, and deep, with perfect conditions .
The best boat, the ideal course, and the finest drivers and coaches.
Here, you can ski year-round in perfect conditions.
I invite you to follow our Instagram page and to come ski here.
I’ll be here until November 16 and hope to return soon.
Hobeski is less than an hour and a half from Miami and two hours from Orlando.
It’s only five minutes from the ocean—one of the East Coast’s top spots for surfing in Florida.
And it’s just 25 minutes from Jupiter, where Tiger Woods lives, one of the most exclusive areas in the U.S.
